4 things you should quit doing.
We all have habits. Whether they are constructive or destructive, we have a difficult time letting go of them. Since our habits become a fragment of our comfort zone, we tend to not reflect and assess how they may be impacting our lives.
Destructive habits are the worst. They complicate your life. They lead you down a path that impedes your growth. By performing these unhealthy actions, we actually neglect our happiness. Remember, we always want our happiness to be the main priority in our lives because it will lead us to become more positive individuals. By becoming more positive, the success floodgates will open.
Listed below are four things that you should quit doing to ultimately better yourself.
Quit trying to always please other people.
Sometimes constantly being selfless can lead you to have destructive habits. When you’re selfless, you have this innate instinct to please other people. You will put others before yourself. This can actually be extremely unhealthy because you aren’t prioritizing your own needs. It’s important to note that before you can help others, you need to be able to help yourself first.
If you are constantly stuck in this cycle where you are pleasing others, you will hit many roadblocks in life. For instance, people will take more advantage of you. Why? Because you set the precedent for them to walk all over you. They know you will say ‘yes’ to anything they say, so they will take whatever they can from you. Ultimately, being a people pleaser will foster a lot of resentment, stress and deteriorate your self-respect.

Quit fearing change.
Life is malleable. It’s not something that is static. Your circumstances, health, finances, life experiences, wisdom and personal growth are always changing. You need to be able to act as a chameleon and adapt to these big changes. Fearing change is something that will hinder you from being able to adapt to new circumstances.
However, we get it. You are a human and as humans we have a visceral reaction to fearing change. This is because we can’t predict the final outcome. Nonetheless, we should always strive to embrace change with the hopes that something better will be entering your life or you will be on a path that’s truly meant to be. By avoiding the thought of uncertainty, you will learn how to let go of the discomfort that accompanies your fear of change.

Quit comparing yourself to other people.
Comparing yourself to other people is yet another innate action humans have. It’s a difficult habit to break because of the implementation of social media. Social media has created a culture where fabricated lifestyles are always illustrated. Sometimes we forget that. We actually start to believe that the filtered lives people plaster all over social media is reality. This unfortunately leads us to comparing our lives with other people.
For instance, you can see someone posting a picture which celebrates their college graduation. Then you proceed to have negative thoughts to yourself, questioning why you haven’t graduated yet. Little comparisons like this can become extremely toxic because you will start to forget that the timing of everyone’s life varies. Instead, be proud of what you have accomplished and use other people’s accolades as motivation to want better for yourself.

Quit living in the past.
It’s tempting to live in the past. We are all composed of our personal experiences that we have endured. Our experiences dictate the way we think and the way we view life. However, harping on the past can actually hinder our future. This is because you will live in resentment and fear that things will go wrong. You will also fear that your past will repeat itself.
To break this cycle, it can be extremely helpful to understand that your past will only make you stronger. Re-brand your negative experiences into something positive. This will allow you to learn from your experiences and help you implement what you have learned. Conquer the present and be excited for the future.
